Tarotka Minor Arcana: Three of Cups

Three of Cups
The Three of Cups represents the power of emotion to bring people together. This can be the card of friendship – the illustration shows a fun time with a group of friends, and thus there’s a definite vibe of partying to be had here. They may just be celebrating for the sake of celebrating – happy enough to be in each other’s company, and their friendship overcoming their physical differences. However, this card can represent many sorts of joyous occasions that cause people to gather, such as weddings, anniversaries, parties, baby showers, community festivities, etc. For the moment, even though life’s problems go on, you can take time out to forget about the hassles of the everyday world and enjoy the company of your friends and loved ones. This is the power of the community: happy times can become happier when shared, sadder times can become less sad, and joy can bring people together despite all of the things that keep them apart.

Sometimes, the power of the community is not emotionally great for you. The Three of Cups inversed is a sign of overindulgence and partying too hard. Your wild abandon is no longer so much about celebration as it is escape – you might wind up drowning your troubles in liquor, drugs, and one-night stands. At a certain point in this excess you stop really enjoying the whole experience, but you keep doing it. Why? Well, probably for a lot of complicated reasons, but the fact your friends are egging you on doesn’t help.
