Umber Skipper

I found this little girl sipping on flowers while out for a walk. She’s not one of the usual Fiery Skippers, so she really caught my eye. I know it’s a she because of the eggs stuck to her abdomen – you can see the little white orbs in the pictures above.

She was trying to ovipost her eggs on this plant, as you can see by the curled abdomen, but the stuck eggs kept her from laying successfully. I feel very bad for her. The article I read on skippers showed they live less than a week, only long enough to lay their eggs. The poor girl can’t even do that, now.
